We discussed the women who have influenced them, how they found their way in the financial industry, and any advice they want to give the next generation of working women in finance.
Olivia Koltiska, Director of Investment Operations of Legacy Ridge Private Wealth, has graciously offered her thoughts on these Women’s History Month questions. Check out her answers below:
Q: What does Women’s History Month mean to you personally?
OK: Women’s History Month is a time to reflect and recognize the women who came before us and helped create opportunities we now benefit from. It’s also a reminder of the impact women continue to have every day in supporting each other, leading, and paving the way for the next generation.
Q: What women—past or present—have influenced you the most and why?
OK: There are too many women to count who have influenced me from teachers, coaches, co-workers, friends, and family. I’m incredibly grateful for all the women who have been a part of my life. I wouldn’t be where I am today, or the person I’ve become without their guidance, encouragement, and support.
Q: What inspired you to pursue your current career path?
OK: I’ve always loved numbers so originally, I thought accounting was my path. In that pursuit, I took a portfolio management class as an elective in college and fell in love with it. That class sparked my interest in investing which ultimately led me to the financial advisory industry, where I could combine my accounting and finance background with financial planning.
Q: What’s a piece of advice you would give to women just starting out in their careers?
OK: Stay curious and keep challenging yourself. If you continue to push yourself to learn new things, you’ll grow and doors will continue to open. Always remember that you don’t have to do it alone, having a strong support system is crucial for success.
Who is a woman in your life you’d like to honor this month?
OK: I’d like to honor my sister, Jennifer. In her 40’s she decided to make a career change and go back to school to become a Physician Assistant. Some people doubted whether she could do it or questioned if it was too late. She stayed determined, never gave up, and today she’s thriving in her new career as a P.A. She’s a great reminder that it’s never too late to learn something new and pursue something you’re passionate about.
